The most important contemporary art collection in Europe. Need we say more? Big names of the art world are featured each year drawing crowds to see works from the likes of Jeff Koons, Le Corbusier and Marcel Duchamp.

The unmistakable "inside-out" architectural style was designed by Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano who wanted to expose the interior facilities of the building. Pipes, air vents and structural details were positioned on the exterior, further highlighting them using bright colours that pop against the sobre metal of the cage-like scaffolding.

It's best to dedicate at least half-a-day to the Pompidou if it's your first time. The centre is huge and the lines can be long, particularly if a temporary exhibition has just opened.

Make sure to visit the avant-garde rooftop terrace for a spectacular view over Paris and a glass of champagne or a meal at Georges.  The terrace is beautifully designed and serves as the perfect place to rest your feet after walking through the huge interior space.
