Fresh Australian and international design was on show this past weekend at Den Fair in Melbourne. We took a trip to the Victorian capital and saw some amazing new collections, furniture pieces and even some inspiring lighting.
We particularly loved seeing a new slew of bespoke pieces by small design firms and one-person operations, but that's a blog post for another day. Here are our favourite picks from the show.
We love the effortless elegance of this chair and the evident quality of construction. It's matching stool is equally chic while the beautifully placed seaming gives both pieces a fine detail.
More jewels were on show at Zuster with their new achingly beautiful Halo collection featuring gorgeous inlaid crystals and oversized marble and granite handles that looked like giant stone buttons.
The craftsmanship of these pieces were outstanding and the addition of the stone and crystal took these pieces to a new stratosphere of beauty. The perfect intersection of on-the-pulse design and impeccable workmanship.
This slubby chair looks like the perfect place in which to collapse with a glass of wine after a long day walking around a trade fair. We think it's best when upholstered in leather but even the pale pink fabric has a fleshy chicness to it.
The entire lighting collection at Rakumba was a great find at the fair but their most innovative piece is the plug-and-play Ramus light that allows you to create your own molecular-like sculptural lighting by simply connecting the various components together.
We've seen customisable lighting like this before but this is far and above the easiest system to use and a hidden gift for designers looking for bespoke pieces with a smaller price tag.
We have a soft spot for swivel chairs at Studio Ombre HQ and this fully upholstered Volley chair by Resident, as well as its more stable cousin, beautifully fuses form, function and felt.
We love the bold pink and bright coral colours but the navy and military green look like the perfect compliment to all the jewel tones we've seen around. Not to mention the perfect place to put one of our cushions ;)
