This gorgeous space is the award-winning hair salon Sloans in Lane Cove. Our client is an award-winning hair stylist and he wanted a salon that reflected his cutting-edge aesthetic.
Our brief was to create a calm, elegant and light-filled space with a clean, sleek edge that integrates functionality with a contemporary finish. Take a look at the results.
We chose custom-made open shelving for the entry using a combination of white, polished steel and mirrored shelves. The reception desk is also custom-made using Italian Carrara marble for a touch of hard luxe. The entry joinery not only displays products for sale, but cleverly hides away day-to-day equipment like printers, eftpos machines and excess stock.
Three lights from the Benben series by Dutch design company Jacco Maris finish off the entrance with warm light and staggered heights that tie the space together. They're like stacks of contemporary totems that give a sculptural element to the space while still being a little playful.
We also chose a textural wallpaper with a reflective quality to add a warm surface and balance the black, white and grey scheme.
For the walls we chose simple, Italian hand-made subway tiles in a gloss white to add some texture across the two levels. The texture of the tiles is accentuated by the recessed lighting that washes down the walls, highlighting the details.
At the rear of the salon, black mirrored cabinets behind the hair-washing station conceal hair product storage areas that move along on a clever recessed track so they can slide and stack when required. Practical and chic.
Our lovely client is thrilled with the result and so are we. The salon interior feels sleek and modern with a little glamour thanks to the way the lighting solutions glide along the glossy surfaces. We believe in design that functions as beautifully as it looks and we certainly hit the mark on this brief.
